When building a new float or decking an old float or pier you have the choice of Wood Decking or Composite Decking (Azek, Trex etc.). Both materials have their advantages and disadvantages. Wood Decking is less expensive and easier to install then Composite Decking. Composite Decking lasts longer and comes in a wide range of patterns and colors. One major disadvantage of Composite Decking is that it is a manufactured process and technology that is continually changing. This becomes a problem when a few years down the road for what ever reason you may need to replace a deck board – that exact color and look may no longer be available for sale. In conclusion, the material to use is a personal preference and there is no right or wrong decision.
